Chili Contests are Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17.

Chili Competition Rules

  1. In this competition, chili is defined as any kind of meat, combination of meat, or vegetables cooked with chili peppers, various other spices and other ingredients. Each entry must be labeled “Meat, Vegan, or Vegetarian”.
  2. Only one entry, per person, per event is allowed.
  3. The entry fee is $250 pesos.* It is non-refundable.
  4. All ingredients must be pre-cooked & treated prior to the event – chili is to be brought “ready-to-eat”.
  5. Each contestant must cook a minimum of twenty liters (five gallons) of competition chili (about 400 samplings).
  6. Contestants are responsible for supplying all of their own utensils & products relating to their chili submission and are responsible to maintain the chili during the event.
  7. Spoons and cups for use in serving chili to the general public will be provided. Condiments will also be provided.
  8. The winners of each days competition, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places, will be determined by the decision of three independent judges. Each competition will also have one People’s Choice winner to be determined by the highest total number of votes received by the general public on that day.
  9. Prizes will be $1000 pesos for 1st place, $750 pesos for 2nd place and $500 pesos for 3rd place along with a framed certificate. The People’s Choice winner will receive an engraved trophy.
  10. Any contestant found to be bribing or enticing the public (in an unethical manner) to obtain votes for their entry will be immediately disqualified.
  11. Hours of competition are 12:30pm to when all the chili is gone.
  12. Competition area will be available for set-up at 11:30am.
  13. All prizes awarded at 4:30pm on the day of the competition.

Margarita Competition Rules

  1. In this competition, any type or flavor of Magarita is allowed. They may be a slush, on the rocks or neat.
  2. Contestants must use the 15 liters of tequila that is provide to them by the competition coordinator.
  3. Only one entry, per person, per event is allowed.
  4. The entry fee is $250 pesos.* It is non-refundable.
  5. Contestants are responsible for supplying all of their own utensils & products (other than tequila) relating to their margarita submissions.
  6. Tasting cups will be provided for use in serving the margaritas to the public.
  7. The winners of each days competition, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places, will be determined by the decision of three independent judges. Each competition will also have one People’s Choice winner to be determined by the highest total number of votes received by the general public on that day.

  1. In the salsa competition, there are no rules as to ingredients. Salsa can be made at the Cook Off or made at home and brought ” ready to  eat”.
  2. Each contestant must  prepare a minimum of 15 liters of salsa (or 300 samplings).
  3. Only one entry, per person, per event is allowed.
  4. The entry fee is $250 pesos.* It is non-refundable.
  5. Contestants are responsible for supplying all of their own utensils & products relating to their salsa submission.
  6. Chips and tasting cups for use in serving salsa to the general public will be provided as well as a table and chairs.
  7. The winners of each days competition, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places, will be determined by the decision of three independent judges. Each competition will also have one People’s Choice winner to be determined by the highest total number of votes received by the general public on that day.

* Charities or schools who want to enter the contests may have fee waved by contest director.
